I’ve been involved in CrossFit for over 7 years and seen the sport of CrossFit evolve and change dramatically over that time. With it the Open has also changed. Over time there has become a VERY huge difference between CrossFit as a competitive sport, and CrossFit as a modality. If you dont know what I’m talking about, you are either within your first 2-3 years of CrossFit or you’re behind the curve. I have little interest in promoting CrossFit competitions. That mindset is not what we sell. It was a big part of my life and training for the first...

As we ring in the new year, everyone is focused on setting new health & fitness goals for 2018 and reflecting on their accomplishments from 2017. This is a busy time of year for gyms, as any good coach or trainer wants to meet with their clients and discuss where the new year is going to take them. For my personal training clients, my group fitness clients, as well as anyone reading this blog, I want to take this opportunity to discuss some important aspects about achieving your goals. So you’ve started CrossFit or a weightlifting program and you look around the class and everyone has multiple pairs of shoes. You think, when “I get good enough I’ll get some too.” However, that though isn’t really in your best interest. It’s really important to have the proper gear but totally unnecessary to get gear just to get gear. For example, if you sign up to play soccer you would go out and buy soccer cleats right? You wouldn’t wear your bowling shoes for your soccer game, just because they’re shoes right? Similar thing with CrossFit and lifting, in...
